As Americans we are extremely blessed. According to the Global Rich List I am in the top 1% of the world’s wealthiest people. Now before you get too impressed, realize that even minimum wage earners in our country still rank in the top 15%.
So what do we do with all that we’ve been blessed with? Well for way too many of us, we concentrate on spending it all on what we want for ourselves…but I believe you were blessed to be a blessing. So this Thanksgiving as you eat way too much and this Friday as you go spend ridiculous amounts of money on gifts for people that already have way more than they could possibly need, keep in mind the less fortunate that live in our area.
As a church we have a goal to fill one of our coat rooms with food to benefit the local food pantry. My challenge to each of you is to bring in as many bags of groceries as you can. Even if you don’t have alot of money by American standards, maybe make a sacrafice this way…let’s say you normally buy one can of soda out of a vending machine per week at 50 cents per can. Would you be willing in 2008 to go without that can and use that $26 instead to help someone who is trying to figure out what their next meal is even going to be? In other words, even a small sacrfice can go a long way in being a blessing to others this holiday season…I’m going to do my part…now what about you?
