Other Weekend Thoughts

April 28, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

  • Wow this weekend wiped me out pretty good…I slept until 9 this morning.
  • As I got the day started my e-mail box was full with parents thanking me for yesterday’s message.  I didn’t really think about it going into the message, but it has provided an awesome opportunity for parents and thier kids to communicate about sex.
  • I forgot to mention in last night’s blog (sort of distracted with all the CAYA people around) that 5 more people gave their lives to Jesus yesterday!
  • One thing I forgot to mention in the message when talking to the married couples….when you set extreme standards in your life it is a good witness to others that you take your faith seriously…it’s a great sign to your spouse of your commitment and love…and it’s a great tool when talking with your kids about setting margin in their own sexuality.  In other words, “Here’s the standards, Mom and Dad have set for their lives…”
  • I forgot to mention in the blog when I was talking about all the guys that said they wished they had stood up to cheer…one guy said it would have been hilarious if it was the “slow clap“.
  • ***NEWS ALERT***    Attending United will help you graduate from college.
  • One of our college students shared with Lisa that she had to take a final last week where the essay question was “In today’s society people are chasing after materialistic things instead of making time for relationships with family and friends.  Do you agree or disagree?”  Yeah I’d say the Take it to the Limit series may have helped with that one, don’t you think?
  • Friday night was the coffeehouse and although the attendance was about half of normal we still had a great time.
  • Tomorrow I’ll be speaking at one of the breakout sessions for the denominations annual conference.  Obviously I’m a little (OK, a lot) different than most of the pastors in the denomination so pray that God would give me the right words to say that will be challenging but yet not offensive.
