Big Announcement

May 20, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

Alright I’ve been teasing you for months now telling you some big things are in the works.  Today I’ll share one of them with you and I may share another tomorrow…or possibly even 2.

In John 17 Jesus prays that we as believer’s might be one.  This summer we have been asked to join over 900 other churches world-wide to do just that.  For 4 weeks starting June 15th we along with them will be doing a series called “One Prayer”.  I will preach one of the weeks, but then the other 3 weeks will be taught by some of the biggest names today in Christianity via video.

We will each preach based on answering the following question…”What would I pray if God would answer One Prayer for the Church at large?”  In addition there are projects we will all work on together including helping to plant 500 churches in Cambodia, India, Sudan, and China.

This is going to be a life-changing series and I’m really looking forward to exposing you to some of the greatest communicators in the church today.  To have these guys in as a guest speaker would normally cost thousands of dollars, but we’re going to get 3 consecutive weeks for absolutely FREE!

Please join me in prayer in the next few weeks leading up to this that Jesus prayer that we might be one would be fulfilled.  Also, use this opportunity to invite new people in…literally this will be like going to see an all-star game…the best of the best will be participating and I guarantee you these guys will make you wish you could hear them every weekend instead of little ole’ me.

Other Weekend Thoughts

May 19, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

  • Wow this weekend whipped me pretty good.
  • From having company staying at the house to the excitement of what I thought God was going to do, to the nervous energy of Sunday morning and knowing my in-laws were going to be in the crowd to actually delivering the message and see it all come together…whew, I’m beat…I took not 1 but 2 naps yesterday…went to bed at a decent hour, but still feel like I’ve been shot.
  • Not that I know what being shot feels like…but I can imagine.
  • You know what…I’d do it all over again…oh yeah I will this up-coming weekend.
  • It’s just a part of the job.  You put so much time, energy and effort into a solitary event and then the adrenaline rush of seeing it all happen creates such a high that coming down off of it is hard.
  • I LOVE MY JOB!
  • Poor Lisa…when I’m really beat, I snore…usually she can go to the guest room, but with her parents in there she ended up on the couch in her office last night.
  • My in-laws love playing the Wii.
  • My father-in-law and I have also been shooting a lot of pool.  There is this game you can play called golf that is just as frustrating as the real thing, but we keep playing it thinking that we’ll “do better the next time.”
  • We invited my intern from last year Brian…who is also the lead guitarist on the worship team…and his girlfriend Chrissy over to dinner on Saturday night because his parents are out of town.  We had a good time and afterwards of course there were some spirited games of Wii being played.
  • Chrissy and I were boxing and just absolutely going crazy with the punches.  In the first round we each knocked the other to the canvas twice.  In Round Two, we were both pummeling each other (of course everyone in the living room was rooting for her…quite loudly I might add) when all of the sudden we hit each other so hard…at the exact same time…that we both collapsed to the mat.  It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.  We both ended up getting up and finally I knocked her out later in the round.
  • No I’m not ashamed of beating a girl.
  • Yes, Brian did tell me Sunday that she was literally worn out for the next 2 hours.
  • Hmmm…maybe that contributed to my tiredness.
  • If you haven’t played the Wii yet, it is a good form of exercise.
  • Speaking of Chrissy…her and a few other females have complained to me that they’d rather be the sugar of the earth rather than the salt of the earth.   Hey don’t yell at me…if you’ve got an argument take it to Jesus…He’s the one who said it.   ; )
  • I had a great devotional time with God this morning…He really confirmed some things to me.
  • Part of which had to do with the big announcement I’ll be making this week right here on the blog…keep checking back…it’s coming.

Inside Today’s Experience

May 18, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

  • Some weeks I come home and feel like we missed the mark…NOT TODAY!
  • What a powerful and moving Experience.
  • 4 more people born into the Kingdom.
  • So many people committing their lives to more than just stuff…but to being whom God has called them to be.
  • Great to have my in-laws in town…especially on a day when I was saying something nice about them in the message.   :)
  • The morning got started early…I was so pumped up about today that I got up early and got into the church so that set-up could be a little more relaxed than normal.
  • When I got there a lot of stuff was still set-up from last nights kids event, so it made it even easier.
  • From a tech standpoint everything went great today…awesome job guys and gals!
  • The worship team was hitting on all cylinders…and that was before the song after the message.
  • Everyone seemed to like the opening video.  What made it so long to shoot, was the fact that after every take, everything needed to be washed and re-set.
  • Obviously I was being very facetious about the Scripture Mints…what’s funny though is that I tried one and they are very good…I mean very good to the point I may buy more.  So now I guess I’m one of those crazy people who think these things are an effective form of evangelism.
  • Thursday night’s worship practice was very powerful because before we learned the “God of this City” song, we sat around and shared with one another what we wanted to see God do in our midst.  It made the song very personal for the team and I think that came through loud and clear when they sang it.
  • I don’t normally do this but I let the song in as part of the MP3 of today’s message.  The sound board is being mixed to sound good in the room, not on a recording so the quality is not as good as it could be, but it was such a powerful moment that I didn’t want to take it out.
  • The album can be purchased here of Chris Tomlin and his team doing the original recording.
  • Afterwards I had tons of people stopping me saying how much they were touched by God.
  • My prayer is that we’d truly start living this out and that God would do something incredible in our midst.
  • My in-laws were hesitant coming in, but they enjoyed it as well…whew.
  • Well it’s time for my Sunday nap.
  • Don’t forget to keep checking back to the blog this week for at least 1 huge announcement and possibly 1 or 2 more.
  • Don’t forget…You are the Salt of the Earth and Your Presence Matters.
  • I’m proud to be your pastor…now let’s go make an IMPACT on Chambersburg and beyond!

    Moving…

May 16, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

Don’t be scared, I’m not moving…NO the Experience this week is going to be very moving.  We had our run through last night and I had goosebumps even though it was extremely hot in the Multi-Purpose Room.  This is one of those can’t miss weeks…make sure to come and why not invite someone to come with you…you’ll be glad that you did.

    $400

May 13, 2008 by Gilbert Leave a Comment

I won’t go into details of why I’m asking this question, but if you had $400 and could use it in anyway to make the biggest evangelistic impact on the residents of Chambersburg, what would you do with it?

Seriously, I want to hear your ideas…use the comment button below.
