- Today went a lot smoother than last week…sure makes things easier.
- We set another attendance record! Speaking of…November’s average attendance was 101 higher than our previous high month.
- Found out afterwards that we did have 1 person who had raised their hand to make a profession of faith.
- That now makes 23 during the series (I didn’t add the numbers right last week…somehow I got 9+7+6 to equal 21 instead of 22).
- I certainly don’t want to discount 23 new believer’s, but we only have 1 week left to meet the goal of 50 we had for this series. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that that was the number God gave me. If we miss it, it certainly won’t be God’s fault. I’ll take full responsibility if we miss it for not properly motivating you to invite more people…however, I still believe we can make it…it’s just going to take an all out blitz this week.
- Had a few family members and their friends in attendance today. Always good to see them and this was their first time with us since we moved, so it’s good to get their perspective on all the changes.
- My 8 year-old niece was disappointed that there wasn’t food set-up in the back like at the old building. I had to take her to the cafe’ to show her that it was indeed still there, just in a different place.
- We had some unique guests with us today. One couple, who I didn’t get to meet but heard were there, came because they’ve been listening online and wanted to come see it in person. Another couple who were there are originally from one of the churches that I’ve most modeled United after.
- I really like the new song we did called “God is Great.” I couldn’t believe people weren’t clapping, so I went up front and got the first few rows going, which got everyone else going as well….whew!
- I received a gift after the Experience that is a toy monkey dancing to the song “I like the way you move.” Just so happens that that is the song I danced to in the GodPod series. Hmmm…wonder what Molly was trying to tell me?
- The recording for today’s message got messed up, so we are checking to see if we can take the audio off the video. If not, I’ll have to re-record tomorrow so we have it…hope not, something doesn’t quite come across the same when you can’t hear the crowd.
- Have CAYA tonight…I really look forward to hanging out with the guys and gals just getting started in life.
- First I need a nap…
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Here are some things I’m thankful for this year:
- I know that it’s cliche’, but I really am thankful for Jesus. Not only has He set me free, but He uses an imperfect person like me to communicate His perfect message.
- Lisa. Not only is she the perfect partner for life, but she’s also the perfect partner for ministry. She is insanely gifted and a very hard worker, yet she also knows how to keep me balanced so that church and ministry don’t consume us.
- I’m thankful for the new building God has entrusted us with. Even though it almost killed me, the end result is well worth it.
- Speaking of…I’m thankful for Andy. Not only is he one of my very best friends in life, but he is also one of the smartest, most loyal and hard working people I know. Because of his drive for excellence, not only did we get one of the most sophisticated buildings technology wise that you will find anywhere, but his decision to do most of the work himself instead of hiring sub-contractors, easily saved us somewhere between $100,000 – $200,000! Thanks Andy…I hope your mansion in Heaven has the most kick’in system God has to offer.
- I’m thankful for other close friends…Gayle, Bill & Nicole and Aaron & Ashleigh.
- I’m thankful that for the most part my family has been relatively healthy this year.
- I’m thankful for all the growth in United this past year both in terms of attendance and salvation’s.
- I’m thankful for our church council that allows me to be myself and reach a generation of people in some many times strange but yet effective ways.
- I’m thankful for this new web-site that allows me to communicate with you.
- I’m thankful that Red Robin and Fuddrucker’s are just around the corner.
- Ok…I’m thankful for Sheetz as well…and they should be thankful for me.
- I’m thankful that we live in the best country on the face of the planet, regardless of what some in the media would have us believe.
- I’m thankful for our troops who make the above a reality.
- I’m thankful for the turkey I’m about to eat!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone…comment below the 1 or 2 things your most thankful for this year.
Blessed to be a Blessing
As Americans we are extremely blessed. According to the Global Rich List I am in the top 1% of the world’s wealthiest people. Now before you get too impressed, realize that even minimum wage earners in our country still rank in the top 15%.
So what do we do with all that we’ve been blessed with? Well for way too many of us, we concentrate on spending it all on what we want for ourselves…but I believe you were blessed to be a blessing. So this Thanksgiving as you eat way too much and this Friday as you go spend ridiculous amounts of money on gifts for people that already have way more than they could possibly need, keep in mind the less fortunate that live in our area.
As a church we have a goal to fill one of our coat rooms with food to benefit the local food pantry. My challenge to each of you is to bring in as many bags of groceries as you can. Even if you don’t have alot of money by American standards, maybe make a sacrafice this way…let’s say you normally buy one can of soda out of a vending machine per week at 50 cents per can. Would you be willing in 2008 to go without that can and use that $26 instead to help someone who is trying to figure out what their next meal is even going to be? In other words, even a small sacrfice can go a long way in being a blessing to others this holiday season…I’m going to do my part…now what about you?
168 Hours part 2
A few weeks back I blogged about 168 hours. I’m not complaining, but this is one of those 144 hour weeks. Because of Thanksgiving, everything is pushed up deadline wise to tomorrow which means I’m still here at the office trying to get Tuesday and Wednesday’s work done all in 1 day. I’m finally finished and sending off some huge e-mails that take forever to go through, so I thought I’d blog about it. So what I’m thankful for this year is normal work weeks…these holiday weeks are for the birds (pun fully intended)!
Announcement and more…
Alright are you ready for my big announcement? Here it is…I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance! Ok, just kidding…actually I’m extremely pleased to announce that Aaron Schwindt will be back at United to lead us in worship on Dec. 2nd. Some of you may remember Aaron from this past summer when he did a week of worship for us. The buzz afterwards was incredible as people experienced for the first time what it’s like to have a worship leader leading us on Sunday mornings. You do not want to miss Dec. 2nd…it’s going to be incredible.
Other thoughts here on a Tuesday afternoon:
- Just got back from lunch with our Youth Pastor, Gene Reineman…who himself just got back from Atlanta where he was attending a youth workers conference. Gene is a great guy and has great things planned for our youth. I always feel bad for youth guys, because it takes them awhile to be accepted by the kids…after all, there’s no one smarter than a 13 year old right? In any case, Gene has adapted well in the year that he’s been here and I think 2008 is going to be incredible for out youth. Check out more youth stuff here.
- I’m excited about rolling out some new small groups in early 2008. We are doing some preliminary work now behind the scenes getting things ready, and it’s been incredible to see God working to bring together the perfect team to lead this initiative.
- I can hear Matt Shear out in the hallway talking right now. Matt is an awesome guy and orchestrated the entire move from one building to another. If you haven’t thanked Matt yet, make sure you do so soon.
- We had a hit on the site the other day from Slovakia. Yesterday the furthest was Las Vegas. We also have quite a following in Tennessee. If you’re reading this and you’re from outside the PA area, let us know who you are via the comments section so we can get to know you.
- I can’t wait for this week’s message…some of you are going to have your finances forever changed for the better!
